Stowasser

When it comes to moving the world forward, Stowasser Service GmbH in Dresden contributes to this every day with its know-how, its projects and its SOFIE software. Rivers or disused extraction sites(gravel extraction, opencast lignite mining, uranium ore mining) are renaturalized using bioengineering construction methods. The near-natural and ecologically compatible methodology ensures that flood events such as in Dresden in 2002 or in the Ahrtahl in 2021 can be kept in check by the power of nature and do not become disasters.

Centuries of knowledge form the basis for the methodology. It was formalized many years ago by the owner Andreas Stowasser and transferred into objective and comprehensible algorithms, which are now available in the SOFIE software.

We at DrySoc are pleased that we were able to make our contribution to this extremely important topic of water by taking on the revision of the software and the transfer to new web technology standards.

Like any building or garden, software is also subject to the natural phenomena of ageing. Necessary activities are often expanded, changed or rebuilt in small steps and the technologies and methods used become obsolete. Depending on how continuously the work is implemented by the same team with a consistent philosophy, the individual construction phases fit together well later on. Over the years, SOFIE had developed a need for revision, which was mainly characterized by the fact that an upgrade from old Silverlight technology to current HTML5+CSS was urgently needed in order to be able to be used in modern browsers again. Along the way, we gradually removed many elements down to the core of the algorithm, fundamentally revised them and rebuilt them, including new modules for user management and licensing. SOFIE is now ready for continuous further development.
